Die Plates

Die plates are the central component in the pelletizing process, where the melt is formed into individual strands. In addition to the hole geometry, temperature control in particular has a significant influence on the flow behavior of the melt and thus on the quality of the pellets.

With KREYENBORG PELLETIZING TECHNOLOGY (KPT), we develop and manufacture die plates for various materials and process conditions. The design is tailored to throughput, material behavior, temperature, and the requirements of the specific application.

 

 

Heating Solutions

Different heating concepts are used depending on the application:

  • Electrically heated die plates for flexible applications and frequent material changes
  • Oil-heated die plates for uniform temperature control when working with demanding materials

The choice of heating system depends on the material, process stability, and the required temperature distribution.

 

Design of the Die Plate

When designing die plates, the following factors are taken into particular consideration:

  • Hole geometry and hole pattern
  • Polymer properties, e.g., viscosity and filler content
  • Material and wear requirements
  • Thermal and mechanical stresses during operation
  • Adaptation of the temperature control system to the specific polymer
