Design of a underwater pelletizing system

The BKG Pelletizing System consists mainly of the following components:

Start-up valve
Bypass piping
Pelletizer with cutting chamber and die plate
Tempered water system

Underwater Pelletizing currently is the most promising, most innovative and, concerning the range of plastics materials to be processed, the most flexible technique for the production of high-quality plastics pellets.

The process

The extruder conveys the molten plastic through the Start-up Valve into the die plate.

In the die plate, the melt stream is divided into a circle of strand and pressed into the cutting chamber through which the process water flows.

The cutter head cuts the polymer strands into pellets direct within the flowing water, and the pellets are conveyed out of the cutting chamber immediately. The pellets flow towards the centrifugal dryer with the process water.

Here, the pellets and the water are separated from each other. The dry pellets flow out of the dryer continuously. The water is filtered, tempered and conveyed back into the production process.
